mandrel - not measured
QUICK RULE
Blind rivets are selected by body diameter and grip
range; body length and grip range are not the same
thing.
BODY LENGTH
DIAMETER
DIAMETER: measure the tubular rivet body - not the mandrel.
DOME/PROTRUDING HEAD BODY LENGTH: under factory head -> end of rivet body.
COUNTERSUNK BLIND RIVET LENGTH: top of countersunk head -> end of rivet body.
IGNORE the exposed mandrel when measuring rivet body length.
GRIP RANGE: total thickness range the rivet is designed to clamp; confirm manufacturer data.
Common inch trade size: first number = diameter in 32nds; second = maximum grip in 16ths
(e.g. 45 = 1/8 in dia, 5/16 in max grip).
